Surf Rowing Belgium

History :

Before being the SurfRowing League of Begium, Charles Henri Dallemagne and his bunch of young rowers, fed up with intrigues and arguing in clubs, started Akhenaton RS in 1997 mostly dedicated to olympic rowing in the first time. 

Australia was not an unknow land for Charles Henri Dallemagne, having family down there.  It's not a suprise if he was attracted by the sport while watching a doc. about surfboat on a french TV channel. He took contact with australian clubs and was informed about the growing sport in UK.  During one of his business trip to London in 2000, he visited Cornwalls, was guested by Tony Davies, a local boat builder, and met with Peter Gaisford.

His decision was made : we'll try to do develop surfboat in Belgium.  Not an easy task, loads of pessimists.

Peter was keen to help and in 2004 Charles got the opportunity to buy a surfboat "war machine", the black boat.  Then comes the first trials, the organization from 2005 of the "Benelux Surfrowing champs", confidential but great, the buy of a second boat, the bunch of french students in Belgium, a group of Ghent's rowers etc.

Today :

The "org." has it's official address in Brussels, olympic rowing boats and activity in Grimbergen, as for surfboat, we tow our boats to the belgian shores, where there is enough infrastructure to get on the water and catch some waves.

From 2005, every year, thanks to the support of the harbour of Brussels, we organize the "Benelux SurfRowing Championships".
